COMMAND MASTER CHIEF
Patrick J. Young
Command Master Chief Young, a native of Greenville, South Carolina entered the United States Naval Service and attended basic training at Recruit Training Command in Great Lakes, Illinois July 1993. After completion of recruit training he reported to CTR “A” School in Fort Devens, Massachusetts and was re-assigned to and completed Radioman “A” School, San Diego, California. In April of 1995 he reported to the USS ABRAHAM LINCOLN (CVN-72) in Alameda, California for his first duty assignment. While on board he completed a deployment to the FIFTH Fleet Area of Responsibility (AOR) in support of OPERATION SOUTHERN WATCH.
In January of 1998 he reported to his next assignment, Helicopter Squadron Anti-Submarine Light Forty-Six (HSL-46) attached to Commander Helicopter Squadron Anti-Submarine Wing Light (CHSLWL), Mayport FL. As the Information System Security Manager and Network Security Officer of the Automated Data Processing (ADP) department he redesigned the network and implemented new security and design policies.
In April of 2001 he reported to Helicopter Squadron Anti-Submarine Five (HS-5) Jacksonville, Florida attached to Carrier Air Wing Seven (CVW-7) embarked on board the USS JOHN F. KENNEDY (CV-67) and USS GEORGE WASHINGTON (CVN-73). As the Carrier Airwing ADP Leading Petty Officer he was responsible for all the squadrons communications during OPERATION ENDURING FREEDOM and OPERATION IRAQI FREEDOM for two successful deployments.
In October of 2005 he reported for Shore duty assignment at United States Southern Command in Miami, FL as Leading Petty Officer/Leading Chief Petty Officer of Director of Intelligence Knowledge Management Branch. He led his branch in disseminating products to execute intelligence operations, identifying and assessing threats, engaging partner nations to build intelligence capability and capacity to support U.S. national security objectives, campaign plans, and theater operations. He was selected to Chief Petty Officer during this tour.
He is entitled to wear the Enlisted Aviation, Surface, and Information Warfare Specialist pins, the Defense Meritorious Service Medal (two awards), the Navy and Marine Corps Commendation Medal, Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medal (six awards), and various campaign, service and unit awards.
In December of 2008 he reported to USS SAMUEL B. ROBERTS (FFG-58) Mayport, Florida as the Communications Leading Chief Petty Officer/Communication Officer and deployed in support of Africa Partnership Station (APS) West, African Maritime Law Enforcement Partnership (AMLEP) deployment in support of the APS East and exercise Cutlass Express in the FIFTH and SIXTH Fleet AOR’s. He was selected to Senior Chief Petty Officer during this tour.
Following a successful tour Master Chief Young completed the Senior Enlisted Academy Class 166 Blue in February 2012 and reported to United States Central Command, Tampa, Florida in March 2012 as the Commander’s Communication Team Superintendent. He was selected for the Command Senior Chief Program and soon later promoted to Master Chief. He graduated from the CMC/COB course Class 171 and currently serves as Command Master Chief Patrol Reconnaissance Squadron Five.
