Command Master Chief Mitchell is a native of Fairfield, Alabama and graduated from Fairfield High School in 1984. He enlisted in the Navy February 26, 1985 and attended basic training at Recruit Training Command San Diego, California.

   Master Chief Mitchell’s military schools includes Radioman “A” School, and International Morse Code School in San Diego, California; Anti-Submarine Warfare Support Communications (ASCOMM); Advanced Shipboard Communications Manager; Electronic Keying Material Manager (EKMS); Surface Communications Systems Operator (SYSCOMM OPR); Information Systems Administrator, Instructor Training, Automated Digital Network System, Network Security Vulnerabilities Technician (NSVT) and a graduate of the Air Force Senior Non-Commission Officer Academy, Class 04-F.

   Master Chief Mitchell’s sea duty tours include: USS FAHRION (FFG-22), USS HALYBURTON (FFG-40), USS LABOON (DDG-58), COMSTANAVFORLANT; embarked USS MOOSEBRUGGER (DD-970), USS THOMAS S. GATES (CG-51), USS TORTUGA (LSD-50). COMCRUDESGRU EIGHT;Embarked USS THEODORE ROOSEVELT (CVN-71), COMDESRON 40, and PCU GEROGE H W BUSH (CVN-77). During his sea tours, he completed six deployments to the North Atlantic, South Atlantic, Mediterranean, Persian Gulf.

   Shore tours include: NAVCOMMSTA Jacksonville, ASCOMM DET Lajes, Azores, FCDIT Norfolk, AFLOATRAGRU Mayport and NCTAMS LANT DET Iceland, NAVCOMTELSTA Jacksonville and HSL-42.

   Master Chief Mitchell is now assigned to Patrol Squadroon Five (VP-5) as the Command Master Chief.

   Master Chief Mitchell is qualified as an Enlisted Surface Warfare Specialist, Enlisted Aviation Warfare Specialist and Afloat Training Specialist. His personal awards include Meritorious Service Medal, four Navy and Marine Corps Commendation Medals, Joint Service Achievement Medal, five Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medals, eight Good Conduct Medals, and various service awards.
