CMDCM Joel Johnson Command Master Chief VFA-83
Command Master Chief Joel M. Johnson enlisted in the Navy May 1987 in San Diego, CA where he completed Recruit Basic Training. Following basic Training, he attended Radioman "A" School at Naval Training Command (NTC), San Diego, CA.
Upon graduation, he reported onboard Assault Craft one (ACU 1) located at the Naval Amphibious Base Coronado, CA. While assigned to ACU 1, he completed numerous deployments as Communicator onboard various Assault and Landing Craft.
Master Chief Johnson's other assignments include Commander Naval Special Warfare Command (CNSWC), Naval Special Warfare Development Group (NSWDG), Explosive Ordnance Disposal Training and Evaluation Unit One (EODTEUONE), Commander Third Fleet (C3F) embarked onboard the USS Coronado (AGF 11), and the White House Communications Agency (WHCA) where he was Communicator for the Vice president and Navy Senior Enlisted Leader. In 2010, he completed a one year Individual Augmentee (I/A) assignment as the CJ6 Chief of Information Systems at Combined Joint Task Force Horn of Africa (CJTF-HOA) in Dijbouti, Africa. Additional assignments to date included Defense Information Systems Agency (DISA), and the Office of Naval Operations (OPNAV N2/N6) Information Dominance Corps as the Senior IT Rating Advisor.
Master Chief Johnson is a graduate of the Naval Senior Enlisted Academy Class 141, the Command Master Chief/Chief of the Boat course Class 91, Navy Survive Escape Resist and Evade (SERE), Navy Individual Augmentee Combat Training (NIACT), the U.S. Army's Basic Airborne and Special Operations Military Freefall High Altitude Low Opening (HALO) Parachute and Combat Lifesaver Courses.
Master Chief Johnson's Warfare Qualifications include the Navy's Enlisted Expeditionary Warfare Specialist, Enlisted Surface Warfare Specialist, Enlisted Aviation Warfare Specialist, and Master Training Specialist (MTS) insignia.
His personal awards include; the Defense Meritorious Service Medal (two awards), Joint Service Commendation Medal, Navy and Marine Corps Commendation Medal (three awards), Joint Service Medal, Navy and Marine Corps Achievement medal (six awards), Navy Expert Pistol and Rifle Service Medals, and various unit and campaign awards.
Master Chief Johnson is authorized to wear the Presidential Service Badge.
