CDR Martin L. Weyenberg is a native of Little Rock, Arkansas.  He graduated from Shorter University in 1997 with a Bachelor of Business Administration and received his commission through Officer Candidate School (OCS) in the spring of 1998.  He was designated a Naval Aviator in 2000 and reported to the Gladiators of VFA 106 in Virginia Beach, Virginia for training in the F/A-18C Hornet.

Commander Weyenberg's initial fleet assignment was to to the Knighthawks of VFA 136 (2000-2003) where he deployed with USS JOHN F. KENNEDY (CV 67) in support of Operation ENDURING FREEDOM.  In September 2003, CDR Weyenberg reported to the Naval Strike and Air Warfare Center (NSAWC) in Fallon, Nevada and attended the Navy Fighter Weapons School, TOPGUN, where he remained as an instructor upon graduation (2003-2006).  He then reported to the Sunliners of VFA 81 (2006-2008) in Virginia Beach, Virginia where he served as the Training Officer and deployed twice with USS NIMITZ (CVN 68) in support of Operation ENDURING FREEDOM, Operation IRAQI FREEDOM and Western Pacific operations.  In July 2008, CDR Weyenberg attended the Naval War College in Newport, Rhode Island and earned a Master of Arts Degree in National Security and Strategic Studies.  CDR Weyenberg then reported to the Knighthawks of VFA 136 (2009-2011) - for a second time - during his Department Head tour, where he served as Admin Officer, Safety Officer, Maintenance Officer, and Operations Officer.  During this deployment with USS ENTERPRISE (CVN 65), CDR Weyenberg supported Operations ENDURING FREEDOM and NEW DAWN, as well as activities in the Horn of Africa (HOA).

 In the summer of 2011, CDR Weyenberg reported to USSOCOM's Interagency Task Force (IATF) (2011-2013) where he was assigned to the National Counterterrorism Center (NCTC) in the National Capitol Region (NCR).  CDR Weyenberg worked U.S. whole-of-government counterterrorism policy, strategy and plans in NCTC's Directorate for Strategic and Operational Planning (DSOP).

 Commander Weyenberg reported to the VFA 34 Blue Blasters and assumed duties as Executive Officer in January 2014.  CDR Weyenberg has been awarded the Defense Meritorious Service Medal, Strike Flight Air Medal, Navy Commendation Medal (three awards), Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medal, and numerous campaign and unit citations.  He has accumulated over 500 arrested landings and over 2600 flight hours.
