CDR Patrick “Skull” Greene
Commander Greene graduated from the U.S. Naval Academy in 1994 and was designated a Naval Aviator in 1997. He reported to the VF-101 Grim Reapers at NAS Oceana, VA for initial F-14 flight training and was subsequently assigned to the VF-14 Tophatters for his first operational fleet tour.
Commander Greene made two deployments with VF-14, first aboard USS THEODORE ROOSEVELT (CVN 71) in 1999 participating in Operations ALLIED FORCE and SOUTHERN WATCH and then aboard USS ENTERPRISE (CVN 65) in 2001 supporting the opening phases of Operation ENDURING FREEDOM. In December 2001, Commander Greene transferred back to VF-101 as an F-14 instructor pilot serving as the Line Division Officer, Air-to-Air Tactics Phase Head, and Training Officer.
In March 2005, Commander Greene transitioned to the F/A-18C at NAS Lemoore, CA and subsequently reported to the VFA-146 Blue Diamonds for an operational department head tour. In 2007, he deployed with VFA-146 aboard USS JOHN C STENNIS (CVN 74) participating in Operations ENDURING FREEDOM and IRAQI FREEDOM. While assigned to VFA-146, Commander Greene served as squadron Safety Officer, Maintenance Officer, and Operations Officer. Following his tour at VFA-146, Commander Greene attended the U.S. Naval War College in Newport, RI where he graduated with distinction.
In March 2009, CDR Greene reported to VFA-122 for refresher training in the F/A-18F prior to joining the VFA-2 Bounty Hunters as Executive Officer. In 2010, he deployed with VFA-2 aboard USS ABRAHAM LINCOLN (CVN 72) in support of Operations ENDURING FREEDOM and NEW DAWN. Commander Greene assumed Command of VFA-2 in March 2011 and deployed again in December 2011 aboard CVN 72 in support of Operation ENDURING FREEDOM and 5th Fleet operations. During his tenure as Commanding Officer, VFA-2 was awarded the 2011 Commander Pacific Fleet Retention Excellence Award, 2011 Commander Naval Air Forces Pacific Battle Efficiency Award (Battle “E”), and the 2011 Commander Naval Air Forces RADM C. Wade McClusky Award distinguishing VFA-2 as the finest F/A-18 Super Hornet squadron in the Navy.
In June 2012, Commander Greene reported to the Office of the Under Secretary of Defense (Acquisition, Technology, and Logistics) serving as Deputy for Unmanned Warfare and Military Assistant to the Deputy Assistant Secretary of Defense for Tactical Warfare Systems.
Commander Greene has accumulated over 3,500 flight hours and 800 carrier arrested landings in the F-14 and the F/A-18. His personal awards include the Defense Meritorious Service Medal, Meritorious Service Medal, nine Air Medals (two Individual Action Air Medals with combat distinguishing device and seven strike flight Air Medals), two Navy-Marine Corps Commendation Medals, two Navy-Marine Corps Achievement Medals, and various campaign and unit awards. He is a native of Lewiston, NY.
