Commander Gregory J. Provencher, USN

 Commander Gregory J. Provencher, a native of Barrington, New Hampshire, graduated from the United States Naval Academy in 1997 with a Bachelor of Science degree in Economics.  After flight training at NAS Corpus Christi, Texas, NAS Meridian, Mississippi and NAS Kingsville, Texas, he received his “Wings of Gold” in June 2000 and was selected to fly the F/A-18C “Hornet.”  In August 2000, he reported to Strike Fighter Squadron ONE TWO FIVE at NAS Lemoore, California for Fleet Replacement Pilot training. 

In May 2001, Commander Provencher joined the “World Famous Golden Dragons” of Strike Fighter Squadron ONE NINE TWO, based at NAF Atsugi, Japan as part of the Forward Deployed Naval Forces for his first Fleet assignment.  During his tour with VFA-192, Commander Provencher participated in numerous at-sea periods, which was highlighted by a combat deployment during the winter of 2003 in support of Operation IRAQI FREEDOM, embarked on USS KITTY HAWK (CV-63). 

Following his tour in Japan, Commander Provencher reported to the “Sharpshooters” of VMFAT-101 based at MCAS Miramar, California to serve as a Fleet Replacement Instructor Pilot and Landing Signals Officer.  As a “Sharpshooter” Commander Provencher served as the NATOPS Officer, Contracting Officer, and managed the T-34C Turbo Mentor Program. 

In February 2007, Commander Provencher reported to Carrier AIR WING THREE as Landing Signal Officer and deployed on USS HARRY S. TRUMAN in support of Operation IRAQI FREEDOM in November of 2007.  Following his deployment to the North Arabian Gulf, Commander Provencher reported to Strike Fighter Squadron ONE ZERO FIVE for his Department Head tour and served as the Administrative and Maintenance Officer. 

In December of 2010, Commander Provencher attended the U.S. Navy War College in Newport, Rhode Island, where he graduated with Distinction while earning a Masters of Arts in National Security and Strategic Studies.  Following War College, Commander Provencher reported to NATO School Oberammergau, located in Bavaria, Germany as a Staff Officer in April 2012.  

Commander Provencher recently finished up a tour at Tactical Training Group Atlantic.  His awards include the Defense Meritorious Service Medal, Air Medal, Strike Flight Air Medal, Navy Commendation Medal, and Naval Achievement Medal.
