Commander F. Richard Lickfold IV, a native of Grosse Pointe, MI, graduated from the University of Kentucky in 1993 with a degree in Computer Science.  He was commissioned in 1996 from Officer Candidate School in Pensacola, FL and was designated a Naval Flight Officer in November 1997.

 

In 1998, he joined the VS-38 "Fighting Red Griffins" where he completed two deployments onboard USS CONSTELLATION (CVN-64) in support of Operation SOUTHERN WATCH.  He was designated a Viking Tactics Instructor in 2000 and reported to the Sea Control Weapons and Tactics Unit (WTU) in 2001.  There, he served as project lead for the fleet introduction of the SLAM-ER to the S-3B. In 2002, CDR Lickfold transitioned to the EA-6B Prowler and joined the "Cougars" of VAQ-139 the following year.  He flew combat missions from USS REAGAN (CVN-76) and Al Asad Air Base (Iraq) in support of Operation IRAQI FREEDOM (OIF).  He then joined the "Rooks" of VAQ-137 in 2006 where he served as Maintenance Officer onboard USS ENTERPRISE (CVN-65) during a deployment to the Arabian Gulf in support of OIF and Operation ENDURING FREEDOM.

 

He attended the Naval War College in Newport, RI and earned a Master's Degree in National Security and Strategic Studies in 2010.  He served as Command Duty Officer for Joint Forces Command and as Intelligence Surveillance and Reconnaissance Joint Working Group Lead for the Joint Staff - Global Force Management (J31) before reporting to Fleet Area Control and Surveillance Facility, Virginia Capes in November 2012. CDR Lickfold has logged more than 2,000 total flight hours and more than 400 arrested landings in Navy tactical aircraft. His military awards include the Defense Meritorious Service Medal, Strike Flight Air Medal (3), Navy Commendation Medal (2), and various unit and service awards.
