CDR Thomas F. Foster
Commander Thomas F. Foster is a native of New Castle, Delaware. He graduated from the U.S. Naval Academy with a Bachelor of Science Degree in Political Science and was commissioned an Ensign in May 1995. CDR Foster immediately reported to Pensacola, Florida for flight training and was designated a Naval Aviator in April 1997.
CDR Foster's first fleet assignment was in Mayport, FL with the Swamp Foxes of HSL-44. While at HSL-44, he made a Counter Narcotics Deployment in USS JOHN L. HALL (FFG32) and deployed in USS JOHN HANCOCK (DD 981) in support of the USS. JOHN F. KENNEDY (CV 67) Carrier Strike Group. While assigned to HSL-44, CDR Foster served as Detachment Maintenance Officer, Squadron Assistant Operations Officer, and Squadron Quality Assurance Officer. Prior to his transfer, he was awarded the HSL-44 Pilot of the Year Award, the COMHSLWINGLANT Pilot of the Year Award, and the HSL-44 Helmsman Award.
Following his tour with the Swamp Foxes, CDR Foster reported to the U.S. Naval Academy as a member of the Leadership Education and Development (LEAD) Program where he earned a Master of Science Degree in Leadership and Human Resource Development from the Naval Postgraduate School and was awarded the Rear Admiral Thomas R. McClellan Award for Academic Excellence. He then spent the next two years serving as the 10th Company Officer. Prior to his transfer, CDR Foster was awarded the Frank M. Adams Junior Officer Leadership Award.
In July 2004, CDR Foster reported for his next assignment with Commander, Carrier Strike Group SIX (CCSG-6) as the Deputy Force Protection Officer where he deployed in USS JOHN F. KENNEDY (CV 67) in support of Operations IRAQI FREEDOM and ENDURING FREEDOM.
CDR Foster reported to the Grandmaster's of HSL-46 in June 2006. There he served as the Squadron Maintenance Officer and the Detachment NINE Officer-in-Charge. Detachment NINE deployed in USS ANZIO (CG68) in support of the USS DWIGHT D. EISENHOWER (CVN 69) Carrier Strike Group. While assigned to HSL-46, CDR Foster earned a Master of Arts Degree in National Security and Strategic Studies from the Naval War College.
In September 2008, CDR Foster was assigned to the Supreme Headquarters, Allied Power Europe (SHAPE) where he served as the Executive Officer to the Deputy Chief of Staff, Support. In July 2010, he reported to the "Seahawks" of HSM-41 to transition to the MH-60R Seahawk. CDR Foster assumed the duties as HSM-41 Executive Officer in April 2011.
CDR Foster reported to the world famous “Wolf Pack” of HSM-75 in June 2012 as Executive Officer and assumed command in August 2013.
CDR Foster's personal awards include the Defense Meritorious Service Medal, Meritorious Service Medal, Navy and Marine Corps Commendation Medal (five awards), Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medal (two Awards), and various unit commendations and service/campaign awards.
