Master Chief Steven R. Cosgrove, a native of Nazareth, Pennsylvania and 1991 graduate of Pen Argyl High School, enlisted in the Navy in February 1993.  Upon completion of basic training at Recruit Training Command, Great Lakes, Illinois, he attended Fire Controlman (FC) “A” School.  He then completed MK 92 Fire Control System Class “C” school at Dam Neck, Virginia.


Upon graduation, he reported for duty onboard USS CURTS (FFG 38) in San Diego, California where he served as a MK 92 Fire Control System Technician from November 1994 to November 1999.


He then reported to Naval War College, Newport, Rhode Island where he served as an Information Resources Department computer technician from December 1999 to December 2002.   


After completing MK 92 MOD 6 Fire Control System Class “C” school in 2003 Master Chief served onboard USS GARY (FFG 51) until December 2005.  It was during this tour that he was selected for advancement to Chief Petty Officer.  


Following MK 160 Fire Control Class “C” school Master Chief reported onboard USS LASSEN (DDG 82) where he served as CG  Division Leading Chief Petty Officer from April 2005 through May 2008.      


After transferring to Surface Combat Systems Center, Wallops Island, Virginia, he served as Combat Systems Department Leading Chief Petty Officer from June 2008 through July 2010. He was also selected for advancement to Senior Chief Petty Officer during this tour.  


He then reported to USS SPRUANCE (DDG 111) where he served from August 2010 through November 2014, as the Weapons Department Leading Chief Petty Officer. 

Master Chief Cosgrove was selected for advancement to Master Chief Petty Officer in April 2012 and was then selected to the Command Master Chief Program in March 2014.  He reported onboard Helicopter Maritime Strike Squadron SEVEN ONE (HSM 71) as the RAPTOR Command Master Chief in February 2015.         

He is a graduate of the Senior Enlisted Academy Class 185 (Khaki Group) and the Command Master Chief Course Class 138.  He also earned his Enlisted Surface Warfare qualification, Master Training Specialist designation, etc.

His decorations include the Navy and Marine Corps Commendation Medal (3 awards), Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medal (3 awards), and various unit and campaign medals.
