COMMANDER WILLIAM E. REAGAN UNITED STATES NAVY EXECUTIVE OFFICER, HSM-40
Commander Reagan is a 1995 graduate of the United States Naval Academy and holds a Master’s of Art in National Security and Strategic Studies from the Naval War College in Newport, RI.
Upon commissioning, he reported to Pensacola, Florida for flight training and was designated a Naval Aviator in October 1997 before reporting to HSL-40 for Fleet Replacement Pilot training.
Commander Reagan’s operational flying assignments include tours in HSL-46, HSL-42, and HSL-44 where he deployed on the USS NICHOLAS (FFG 47), USS THORN (DD 988), USS CARR (FFG 52), and USS VELLA GULF (CG 72). Throughout his career, he has flown in support of Operations Nobel Anvil, Southern Watch, Enduring Freedom and Iraqi Freedom. During his tour at HSL-46 from June 1998 to October 2001, he deployed with the ENTERPRISE and TRUMAN Carrier Strike Groups and was selected HSL-46’s “Pilot of the Year 2000”. In April 2004, he served as HSL-42’s Squadron Weapons and Tactics Instructor (WTI) where he was responsible for the tactical training and readiness of over 75 pilots and aircrewmen. As WTI, HSL-42 was recognized two consecutive years for tactical excellence. In February 2006, he reported to HSL-44 as Detachment ONE Officer in Charge (OIC) to deploy with the VELLA GULF, supporting BALTOPS ’06 and BATAAN Expeditionary Strike Group deployment ’07. Upon completion of Detachment OIC duties, he served as squadron Maintenance Officer (MO) from August 2007 to June 2008. As MO, he is led 240 personnel in the required maintenance of fourteen SH-60B aircraft, and he was selected COMHSMWINGLANT “Officer of the Year” in 2007.
Ashore, Commander Reagan was a Primary Flight Instructor in the T-34C at VT-3, NAS Whiting Field, from February 2002 to January 2004. While at VT-3, he held positions as flight leader and assistant operations officer which closely monitored all student progression through primary and intermediate flight syllabus. In July 2009, he reported to Offutt AFB, U.S. Strategic Command and served at the National Airborne Operations Center. Commander Reagan has served as Helicopter Maritime Strike Squadron FOUR ZERO’s Executive Officer since September 2012.
Commander Reagan has accumulated 3,500 hours of total flight time with over 2,200 hours in the SH-60B. Personal decorations include a Defense Meritorious Service Medal, four Navy Marine Corps Commendation Medals, two Navy Achievement Medals and various unit campaign medals and awards.
