Master Chief Petty Officer Roberts was born on June 22, 1964 in Mt Pleasant, Michigan. Following graduation from North Chicago High School, in North Chicago, Illinois, he enlisted in the Navy In January 1984.
He received recruit training at Recruit Training Command in Great Lakes, Illinois, and completed Machinist's Mate "A" school and Machinist's Mate advanced technical training in Great Lakes.
His first assignment was to USS BELKNAP (CG 26) as an auxilaryman. His next assignment was to USS VOGE (FF 1047) as a Work Center Supervisor. After attending class "C" school in July 1988, he reported on board USS CANOPUS (AS 39) where he advanced to First Class Petty Officer and served as Leading Petty Officer of the Engine Room.
His next assignment was Recruit Training Command, Great Lakes, as a Recruit Company Commander. He then reported back to sea duty on board USS FRANK CABLE (AS 40), where he advanced to Chief Petty Officer. His follow-up assignment was to USS TRENTON (LPD 14). After shore duty as Ship Superintendent at Kings Bay Submarine Base, Georgia he reported back to sea duty and completed consecutive sea tours on USS MCINERNEY (FFG 8) and USS JOHN F KENNEDY (CV 67) Advancing to Senior Chief Petty Officer and Master Chief Petty Officer and was selected to the Command Master Chief program.
He has completed four successful Command Master Chief assignments to Naval Recruiting District Michigan, USS UNDERWOOD (FFG 36), Navy Computer Telecommunication Station Bahrain and Navy Information Operations Command Georgia. He is currently serving as the Command Master Chief for Helicopter Maritime Strike Squadron FOUR ZERO.
His personal awards include the Meritorious Service Medal, Navy and Marine Corps Commendation Medal (six awards), the Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medal (three awards), ten Sea Service Deployment Ribbons, as well as other unit and campaign awards
Master Chief Roberts is married to the former Melba Watts. They have two boys, Carlton and David, both who served in the Armed Forces. Carlton served as Quarter Master Second Class. David is a Technical Sergeant stationed at Ramstein Air Force Base, Germany.
