A native of Littleton, CO, Commander Thomas graduated from Tulane University in 1999 with a Bachelor of Arts in Political Science. He reported to flight training and was designated a Naval Aviator in 2001.
Upon completion of the H-46D Fleet Replacement Pilot Training, Commander Thomas reported to Helicopter Combat Support Squadron EIGHT (HC-8), Naval Air Station Norfolk, VA, for his initial sea tour. Between 2001 and 2004, Commander Thomas deployed aboard USNS SUPPLY (T-AOE 6) and USS IWO JIMA (LHD 7). He served as Aircraft Division Officer and H-46D Naval Air Training and Operating Procedures Standardization (NATOPS) Officer while assigned to HC-8.
Subsequent sea duty assignments include a tour as Catapult and Arresting Gear Officer aboard USS RONALD REAGAN (CVN 76), where he served as V-2 Division Officer and qualified as Shooter and Assistant Air Officer. His Department Head tour was with the Wildcards of Helicopter Sea Combat Squadron TWO THREE (HSC-23), Naval Air Station North Island, CA. He deployed as Officer in Charge of Detachment THREE onboard USNS BRIDGE (T-AOE 10) and served as the squadron’s Safety Officer and Operations Officer.
Ashore, Commander Thomas served as a MH-60S Fleet Replacement Squadron Instructor Pilot at Helicopter Sea Combat Squadron THREE (HSC-3), Naval Air Station North Island, CA. While assigned to HSC-3, he served as Standardization Officer and MH-60S NATOPS Program Manager. From 2012 to 2014, he served as the Helicopter Sea Combat and Helicopter Mine Countermeasures Placement Officer assigned to Navy Personnel Command, Millington, TN.
Commander Thomas holds a Masters of Science in Global Leadership from University of San Diego.
