  A native of Palmyra, New Jersey, CDR Bailey is a 1995 graduate of the United States Naval Academy, majoring in history.  He also holds a Master of Science in Global Leadership from the University of San Diego (2002) and a Master of Arts in National Security and Strategic Studies from the Naval War College (2014).

  He completed flight training in Milton, Florida and was winged a Naval Aviator in August 1997.  His initial sea tour was with the Gunbearers of HC-11 in San Diego, California flying the H-46D.  While at HC-11 he made two WESTPAC deployments.  He deployed aboard USS RAINIER (AOE-7) with the USS CARL VINSON Strike Group in support of Operations Desert Fox and Southern Watch.  His second deployment was aboard USS TARAWA (LHA-1) in support of the 13th Marine Expeditionary Unit.

  In 2002, CDR Bailey transitioned to the MH-60S as the community phased out the H-46, and reported to the Chargers of HC-6, Norfolk, VA for his second sea tour.  At HC-6, he deployed aboard USS SAIPAN (LHA-2) in support of Task Force Tarawa and Operations Enduring Freedom and Iraqi Freedom.  During this deployment he was qualified as Officer of the Deck Underway.  Following back-to-back sea tours, CDR Bailey then reported to the Commander, Naval Air Force, U.S. Atlantic Fleet, as his Flag Aide.

  In May 2006, he reported to the World Famous Golden Falcons of HS-2 during their WESTPAC deployment with CVW-2 on USS ABRAHAM LINCOLN (CVN-72) flying the H-60F/H.  He served as the Admin and Operations Officer and made a second deployment in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom. 

  Following his Department Head tour, he reported to the Joint Staff J-3 in Washington D.C. where he served as an Emergency Actions Officer in the National Military Command Center. 

  In March 2011, he returned to the Golden Falcons of HSC-12 as their Executive Officer and Commanding Officer now flying the MH-60S.  They completed an 8-month deployment with CVW-2 on USS ABRAHAM LINCOLN (CVN-72) in support of Operation Enduring Freedom.   The squadron completed a Permanent Duty Station move to Atsugi, Japan in the spring of 2013 and deployed with CVW-5 and CTF-70 on USS GEORGE WASHINGTON (CVN-73).

   His personal awards include the Defense Meritorious Service Medal, Meritorious Service Medal, Joint Service Achievement Medal, the Navy Commendation Medal (4) and the Navy Achievement Medal (2).  He has accumulated over 3,400 flight hours.  CDR Bailey resides in Chesapeake, VA with his wife of 16 years, Janine (USNA ’97), son Andrew, and daughter Alexandra.
