CDR John “T-Bone” Arbuckle is a native of Erie, Pennsylvania. He graduated from the United States Naval Academy in 1998 with a Bachelor of Science in Political Science. After commissioning, he attended Naval flight training, qualifying as a Naval Aviator in July of 2000. CDR Arbuckle then reported to HS-10 in San Diego, California for fleet replacement training in the SH-60F and HH-60H Sea Hawk. Upon completion, he joined the world famous Red Lions of HS-15 in Jacksonville, Florida. In HS-15, CDR Arbuckle deployed on USS GEORGE WASHINGTON in support of Operations NOBLE EAGLE and ENDURING FREEDOM in addition to numerous land and sea based detachments.
After leaving HS-15, CDR Arbuckle reported to the Rotary Wing Weapons School in Fallon, Nevada, earning his designation as a Seahawk Weapons and Tactics Instructor. He then reported to the Helicopter Antisubmarine Wing Atlantic Weapons Training Unit where he served as a weapons and tactics instructor for five Jacksonville based HS squadrons. During this period, the Weapons and Tactics Unit became its own command, Helicopter Sea Combat Weapons School Atlantic. While serving at the Weapons School, CDR Arbuckle earned his Masters in Business Administration from the University of North Florida.
In 2007, CDR Arbuckle transferred to the Selected Reserve serving as the Operations Officer at Amphibious Squadron Eight, Detachment 809. He then served as both Executive Officer and Commanding Officer of USS EMORY S. LAND DETACHMENT L. During this period, CDR Arbuckle earned his Juris Doctor from the University of Kentucky and was admitted as a member of the Kentucky and Tennessee bars. He practiced law with the firm of Fowler Bell, PLLC in Lexington, Kentucky.
In 2011, CDR Arbuckle left the practice of law and returned to active duty as a Full Time Support Aviator. He reported to the Airborne Mine Countermeasures Weapons and Systems Training School, qualifying in the MH-53E Sea Dragon. He then reported to HM-14 where he served as Reserve Officer in Charge and Operations Officer. Following his tour at HM-14, CDR Arbuckle served as the Assistant Fleet Operational Support Officer at US Fleet Forces Command.
CDR Arbuckle’s personal decorations include the Meritorious Service Medal, Navy and Marine Corps Commendation Medal, Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medal, and various campaign and unit awards.
