EXECUTIVE OFFICERCDR Brady, a native of Louisville KY, enlisted in the Navy in 1988 and completed recruit training, BE&E, and STS “A” school at NTC San Diego, CA. He is a plank owner of the USS Kentucky (SSBN 737) and has also made strategic deterrent patrols with the USS Alabama (SSBN 731) and USS West Virginia (SSBN 736).
CDR Derek S. Brady
After selection to the Enlisted Commissioning Program in 1995, CDR Brady earned a Bachelors degree in Electrical Engineering from North Carolina State University. Designated as a Naval Aviator in 2000, he reported to the Black Stallions of HC-4 in Sigonella, Sicily serving as detachment “B” division officer and Quality Assurance Officer. During this tour he deployed multiple times in support of Operation ENDURING FREEDOM and IRAQI FREEDOM, and supported POTUS visits to Switzerland and the United Kingdom.
In 2004, CDR Brady transferred to the Airborne Mine Countermeasures Weapon Systems Training School (AWSTS) in Norfolk, Virginia, as a Fleet Replacement Instructor pilot in the MH-53E helicopter. During this tour he served as Safety Officer, Operations Officer, and Training Officer while earning his Masters degree in Information Technology from Virginia Tech. In the aftermath of Hurricane Katrina he deployed to Naval Surface Warfare Center, Panama City, FL to provide heavy-lift capability in theater.
In 2007 CDR Brady reported to the USS Essex in Sasebo, Japan where he was assigned as the V-3 and V-1 division officer, Handler, and Mini-boss. During this tour he participated in exercises BALIKATAN and COBRA GOLD was designated as an OOD (U/W).
CDR Brady reported to the Blackhawks of HM-15 in 2009 for his department head tour where he served as Admin Officer, Mine Countermeasures (MCM) Maintenance Officer, and Aircraft Maintenance Officer. He flew in operation UNIFIED RESPONSE following the earthquake in Haiti, and in HADR operations during the flooding in Pakistan, and then served as the Officer-In-Charge of the forward-deployed 4 aircraft detachment in the Kingdom of Bahrain.
CDR Brady earned an Associates Degree in French at the Defense Language Institute in Monterrey, CA in 2012 before transferring to the Ècole de Guerre in Paris, France where the French Government awarded him a brevet d’études militaires supérieures.
His personal awards include the Navy and Marine Corps Commendation Medal (4) and the Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medal (3), as well as other personal, campaign and service ribbons.
