     Captain Fredrick “Lucky” Luchtman is a native of Auburn Hills, Michigan and a 1989 graduate of the United States Naval Academy. He was designated a Naval Aviator in Beeville, Texas in December, 1990.
 
     Following initial training with VFA-106 flying the FA-18C Hornet, he reported to the “Maruaders” of VFA-82 at NAS Cecil Field, Florida. During his first sea tour he completed two deployments onboard USS AMERICA (CV-66) in support of Operations SOUTHERN WATCH, DENY FLIGHT and DELIBERATE FORCE, earning his Landing Signal Officer Wing Qualification along the way. In May, 1997
 
     Captain Luchtman completed advanced tactics training at the Navy Fighter Weapons School, TOPGUN at Naval Air Station Fallon, Nevada, and subsequently reported to Strike Fighter Weapons School, Atlantic. He was assigned to the VFA-136 “Knighthawks” as Strike Fighter Tactics Instructor in May, 1999, deploying onboard USS DWIGHT D. EISENHOWER (CVN-69) in support of Operations DENY FLIGHT and SOUTHERN WATCH. Captain Luchtman completed his Department Head tour with the “Wildcats” of VFA-131, deploying onboard USS JOHN F. KENNEDY (CV-67) in support of Operation ENDURING FREEDOM. While assigned to the “Wildcats,” he also flew with the “Kestrels” of VFA-137 onboard USS CONSTELLATION (CV-64) in support of Operation IRAQI FREEDOM.
 
     Captain Luchtman received his Master of Arts Degree in National Strategy and Policy from the Naval War College in November, 2004. He then reported to United States Strategic Command, Joint Functional Component Command Global Strike and Integration in Omaha, Nebraska where he served as C4 Systems Division Chief. In April, 2007, Captain Luchtman joined the “Valions” of VFA-15 as Executive Officer. He assumed command in October, 2008 while deployed in support of Operation ENDURING FREEDOM onboard USS THEODORE ROOSEVELT (CVN-71). Following his command tour, he reported to Navy Personnel Command in Millington, Tennessee where he served as the Tactical Air Commander Detailer and as the Executive Assistant to the Commander.
 
     Captain Luchtman’s personal awards include the Legion of Merit, Bronze Star, Defense Meritorious Service Medal, Meritorious Service Medal, Air Medal with Combat V, Strike Flight Air Medal (6 awards), Joint Commendation Medal, Navy and Marine Corps Commendation Medal (4 awards) and the Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medal (3 awards).
 
      Captain Luchtman is married to Maria Miglioretti of Columbia, Maryland. They reside in Virginia Beach, Virginia with their beautiful daughter Julianna Skye.
