Congratulations on receiving orders to USS THEODORE ROOSEVELT (CVN 71), the most battle tested carrier in the fleet and currently located at the Northrop Grumman Newport News Naval Shipyard in Newport News, Virginia. Each Sailor reporting for duty aboard THEODORE ROOSEVELT is assigned a sponsor by the Command Sponsor Program Coordinator. If you have received orders and have not received a sponsor message, contact the Training Department immediately and a sponsor will be assigned. You may call (757) 688-8790 or (757) 534-0707/1191 or e-mail TRSponsor@cvn71.navy.mil. Newly reporting personnel are reminded to provide their sponsors with up-to-date travel arrangements and contact information. In addition, access to the Newport News Shipbuilding and the THEODORE ROOSEVELT is restricted. You will require a Newport News Shipbuilding Badge to gain access through the turnstiles located on 31st street. Your sponsor will assist you in the submission of a badge request to prevent excessive delay in reporting.

Bring all records, orders, endorsements, travel-related receipts. Also cell phone number, new address, etc.

During normal work days M-F 0700-1530, new check-ins should report to Huntington Hall, Room 101, located at 3100 Huntington Avenue, Newport News, VA 23607. Phone: (757) 688-8790. After normal working hours, weekends, and holidays, report to Huntington Hall quarterdeck. Please make sure you leave a good contact number (i.e. cell phone/relative/friend), in case we need to reach you prior to the next work day. There are numerous “pay to park” lots adjacent to Building 635 and 633, make sure you pay to park, towing is enforced!

If you arrive at the Norfolk or Newport News International Airport, contact the TR Quarterdeck or Transportation Dispatch upon arrival to arrange transportation or visit the United Services Organizations (USO) in the airport if you require assistance. Taxi service is available at the airport (ensure you have sufficient funds and estimate approximately $50). Fees for transportation are reimbursable under your PCS orders.
