 Captain Shawn T. Bailey





    Captain Shawn Bailey is a native of San Antonio, Texas, and graduated from Texas A&M University at Galveston in 1995 with a Bachelor of Science in Marine Biology. He was designated a Naval Aviator in June 1997.
    Captain Bailey’s operational assignments include two back-to-back tours with Helicopter Combat Support Squadron FIVE (HC-5) on Guam, deploying twice aboard USS BELLEAU WOOD (LHA 3), twice aboard USNS NIAGARA FALLS (T-AFS 3), and USNS FLINT (T-AE 32) in support of Operations SOUTHERN WATCH, DESERT FOX, WARDEN, STABILIZE, and IRAQI FREEDOM; Helicopter Sea Combat Squadron TWO THREE (HSC-23), deploying as Detachment Officer-in-Charge aboard USS BONHOMME RICHARD (LHD 6) in support of Operations IRAQI FREEDOM, ENDURING FREEDOM and SEA DRAGON. Captain Bailey commanded Helicopter Sea Combat Squadron TWO EIGHT (HSC-28) in support of SECOND, FOURTH, FIFTH and SIXTH Fleet operations. He served as Air Boss in USS BOXER (LHD 4) and deployed in support of THIRD, FIFTH, and SEVENTH Fleet Operations and National Tasking in the PACOM and CENTCOM AORs.
    Captain Bailey’s shore assignments include instructor duty at the Naval Strike and Air Warfare Center in Fallon, NV as a Seahawk Weapons and Tactics Instructor (SWTI) and SWTI Program Manager providing graduate level flight training for all Navy H-60 communities. He is a graduate of the United States Naval War College in Newport,     Rhode Island with a Master of Arts in National Security and Strategic Studies.  Most recently, Captain Bailey commanded the MERLINS of Helicopter Sea Combat Squadron THREE (HSC-3), the MH-60S, HH-60H, MQ-8 Fleet Replacement Squadron, from April 201 5 to March of 2017.
    Captain Bailey has accumulated more than 3400 flight hours in the H-46D, MH-60S, SH-60F, HH-60H, and MQ-8B helicopters.  His decorations include the Meritorious Service Medal (third award), Air Medal (individual award), and various personal, unit, campaign and service awards.
