Commander Haesler grew up in Little Rock, AR and attended the University of North Florida in Jacksonville, FL earning a Bachelor of Arts in Education. He received his commission from Officer Candidate School (OCS) in 2000 at Naval Air Station Pensacola, FL. After primary flight training in Pensacola, he was winged as a Naval Flight Officer in 2002 at Randolph Air Force Base in San Antonio, TX. He then attended P-3C Fleet Replacement Squadron (FRS) training with Patrol Squadron Thirty (VP-30) in Jacksonville, FL.
CDR Haesler reported to the Fighting Tigers of Patrol Squadron Eight (VP-8) in Brunswick, ME in October 2002. While there, he served as the Avionics Branch Officer, Schedules Officer, and NFO NATOPS Officer. CDR Haesler qualified as P-3C Tactical Coordinator (TACCO), Instructor Tactical Coordinator and Mission Commander. He flew in support of operations in the Balkans, Iraq, and the PACOM Area of Responsibility.
CDR Haesler reported to P-3C FRS, VP-30 in Jacksonville, FL in October 2005 to serve as FRS Instructor TACCO. Assigned to the Weapons and Tactics Unit (WTU) as the Fleet Training Department Head, he was responsible for all MPRA advanced tactics and training. During his time at VP-30, he earned the qualifications of FRS Instructor and Orion Weapons and Tactics Instructor.
In December 2007, CDR Haesler reported to Fleet Support Unit Five (FSU-5) in Brunswick, ME for his second sea tour. Serving as the Tactics and Training Department Head, CDR Haesler was responsible for the training, qualification, and proficiency of Patrol Squadron Aircrews and Fleet Support Unit operators in the tactical utilization of the Littoral Surveillance Radar System. While there, he flew numerous combat sorties in support of joint operations throughout the CENTCOM and PACOM Areas of Responsibility.
CDR Haesler reported to the Naval War College, Newport, Rhode Island in October 2009. There he attended the College of Naval Command and Staff, and was awarded a Master’s Degree in National Security and Strategic Studies.
In February 2011, CDR Haesler began his Department Head tour with the Wizards of Special Projects Patrol Squadron Two (VPU-2). While onboard, he served as Configurations Officer, Training Officer, and Maintenance Officer and conducted numerous detachments to the CENTCOM and AFRICOM Areas of Responsibility.
Following his Department Head tour, CDR Haesler completed a joint duty assignment at the Joint Warfare Analysis Center in Dahlgren, Virginia. While there, he served as Liaison Officer to U.S. Forces Korea and as the PACOM/USFK Support Branch Chief.
In March 2017 CDR Haesler reported to Fleet Area Control and Surveillance Facility Jacksonville as Executive Officer.
CDR Haesler has accumulated more than 2,900 flight hours and has been awarded the Defense Meritorious Service Medal, Air Medal (two awards), Navy Commendation Medal (three awards), Navy Achievement Medal, and various other unit, campaign, and service decorations.
